Adj. Professor, Specialist for Internal Medicine | University Hospital Homburg

Dr. med. Christian Werner, studied Medicine in Homburg, Saarland. He has specialized in internal medicine and cardiology. He is senior cardiologist at the University Clinic of the Saarland, focused on cardiac active rhythm devices and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy, heart failure unit, cardiopulmonary function tests and lipid disorders. His main research work deals with the unravelling of molecular mechanisms of physical activity. Here, mouse as well as human training studies were published in high-impact journals. The main finding of the research is, that in both, cross-sectional studies on young ad well long-term endurance athletes, and prospective training studies in healthy subjects starting an endurance training program in mid-age, telomere-associated proteins as well as telomere length, are improved, suggesting an “anti-aging”effect of endurance exercise.
